‘Twas the Night Before Christmas (According to Cats)

Standard

‘Twas the night before Christmas

and all through the house

all the creatures were stirring.

Even the mouse!

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care

in hopes that St. Claws soon would be there.

Mom in her kerchief and I in my cap

had just settled down for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the lawn arose such a clatter,

I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.

When what to my wondering eyes should appear

but a miniature sleigh

and one old horse.

All the reindeer were sick

so Santa had to rely

on one old horse

that just couldn’t fly.

When Santa was let in

through the front door,

he immediately scared

the cats on the floor.

The cats were excited

to see what they’d get

as Santa delivered the gifts

to each pet.

Having finished his work,

Santa went to the door.

He climbed in his sleigh

and started to snore.

As the horse moved on

and was soon out of sight,

Santa was dreaming about the catnip

he would have later tonight.

Hope you enjoyed this. Want to wish each one of my readers a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2017! God bless each and every one of you.

Getting Ready For the Big Day

Standard

Last week my computer wouldn’t even turn on, so I missed posting. Finally able to get it fixed! Want to share with you how the cats help me get ready for Christmas.

First of all, we have to have a Christmas tree,

ill-help-decorate

so they have something to play with!

its-beginning-to-look-a-lot-like-christmas

must-destroy-shiny-stuff

If they play with the garland, you may get this.

sparkly-poopz

Okay, finally have the tree ready. We have a new angel at the top.

what-do-you-mean-get-down

Of course, with Christmas, there’s always cookies.

are-those-for-us

Have to visit Santa to let him know what the boys want.

go-see-santa-they-said

Something they DON’T want is to be dressed up.

every-year-its-the-same-thing

fine-have-your-fun

They’d rather sing instead.

deck-the-halls

All of this is very exhausting work!

However, we all wish you the blessings of the season.

You Now Have TOO MANY CATS!

Standard

Last week in talking about the “weirdness” of cats, I used this picture, among many.

Fred

Yes, cats remember how their kind was treated thousands of years ago.

Ancient Egypt

So you accepted Fred and all of his friends. Wonder what your house would look like now. There would be the problem of where they would all sleep. You might have to do this.

Cat Organizer

Or this.

Spare Cats

The overflow may have to sleep with you!

Ready For Bed

Well, enough of that! What else might happen?

Once they wake up, there might be a grouch among the group.

 Good Morning (2)

They’ll want to play.

Something Was Jumping

Move Over

They’ll want to look outside to see what’s going on.

Kitty Cats

They’ll have to introduce themselves to the dog.

Hello

They’ll need their exercise.

Be Right Back

Treadmills

There are very different personalities among all these cats. Anything from a fraidy cat,

Squish It

a shy cat,

Peek-A-Boo

a well educated cat,

Using Hashtags

a smart cat,

Science Cat

to a cat that’s just being a smarty pants!

Check Engine Light

But even through all the situations that come about, they will still love you.

Mom

After all,

Potato Chips

Are You Ready?

Standard

Sorry I missed last week, but things were pretty crazy around here. Thanksgiving is not too far away, so I thought I’d better get something done today and get ready for it. Of course, the cats wanted to help. Yikes!! They have their own thoughts about the menu, but I’m the boss. (Or so I think)

Okay, let’s start with the turkey. I know I can go to the store to get one, but they think you trap a turkey like you trap cats. I don’t think so!!

Cat Traps

We need stuffing for the turkey, but that’s not what salad is for, silly cat.

I Want It

We’ll need potatoes and some kind of vegetable to go with the salad, but I don’t think I’m going to get any help there. (He won’t either)

Cat on Back

What should we have for dessert? Anything with chocolate is fine with me! And no, you can’t have any chocolate.

You Don't Say

Most everybody in our family drinks coffee with their meal.

Coffee Consumption

Sometimes people bring a special dish that others like, so the dog thinks he needs to do this too!

Can We Keep It

All in all, it will be a wonderful day because of being with family. After all, when everything is said and done, that’s what’s important!

YOU Don’t Like Cats? Really!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Standard

So, you tell me that you don’t like cats. I find that very strange. Cats are THE THING on the Internet nowadays. You can’t get away from the thousands of pictures posted everyday. Cat videos rake in millions of views per year. How could you not fall in love with this?

Flower Cat

However, according to an article I just read, there are historic and scientific reasons for your disinterest in all things feline. Just like for all those cilantro haters (um, I’m one of those) out there, sometimes there are reasons beyond your control for hating something everyone else seems to love. (Not that we cat lovers would EVER understand that, but I guess we can try.)

Studies show that some people have a psychological disposition towards cats. It seems that cat lovers are psychologically different than canine lovers. Well, that poses a problem. If I like both, does that mean that part of me is psychologically different than another part? I could end up being very confused! Guess I’ll figure that out later. According to the research, “dog people were generally about 15% more extroverted and 13% more agreeable”. These figures point to slight differences in personality, giving the cat haters the more outgoing personality. It further distinguishes between the types of people: “Dog people were 11% more conscientious  than cat people. Conscientiousness is a tendency to show self-discipline,  to complete tasks and aim for achievement. The trait shows a preference for planned rather than spontaneous behavior.” (This must mean that I’m an outgoing introvert that likes planned spontaneous behavior)???

OMG

Yes, cats are more likely to cause allergic reactions than dogs. Some people can’t handle that at all, even with medication. I take allergy shots because I’m not about to give up my cats. Cats in the ancient Egyptian culture were treated as demi-gods, but Medieval Europe regarded them as a source of the plague. (You just can’t please everyone) They’ve always been considered predators which is okay as far as rats and mice, but not with birds. Some species have been eliminated entirely because of feral cats.

I Love My Feather

You may not like cats, you may hate cats, but they really don’t care! For example, you have cats with the same attitude as Grumpy Cat.

I Don't Trust People

Sometimes I Wish I Was an Octopus

The Problem With Some People

Okay, Grumpy Cat, that’s enough of your negative attitude. That certainly won’t change people’s minds about liking cats. In the meantime, us cat lovers will enjoy our delightful little creatures and look forward to the time spent with them.

Beautiful Markings

Glad to Meet You

A Valentine From Your Kitty Cat

Standard

It’s Valentine’s Day! The day of love. Maybe you’ll get flowers, candy, a surprise gift from that special person in your life. But, what do you get from your cat? Love, of course! It’s just expressed in a different way.

Head-Butting

The actual term is “bunting”. Regardless of what you call it, it definitely involves the sense of smell. A cat’s sense of smell defines life for your cat. For cats, scent determines sexual status. They also use this sense of smell to communicate and interact socially with each other, as well as to identify territory. To put this in perspective, people average five to 20 million scent-analyzing cells lining their nose. Cats have about 67 million.

Cats have scent glands in their toes, chin, cheeks, lips, forehead, and tail. Bunting spreads your kitten’s signature odor upon whatever they rub, and this “sharing of the scent” identifies family members and safe objects with familiar odor. Bunting is a huge compliment when Kitty head-bumps you, or rubs your ankles and twines their tail about your leg. They’re marking you as part of their family, a favorite part of their territory or property.

Sandy

Face rubbing is thought to be a subtle sign of deference with the subordinate kitty approaching and bumping/rubbing against the more dominant pet or person. This exposes eyes to the other cat’s teeth and claws, so head bumps and cheek rubs to your face (or another cat’s face) should be considered a sign of friendship and great trust.

Nose touches and hip leans are considered by your kitten to be gestures of friendship. You may notice Kitty cheek-rub as a greeting behavior, too, after you come home from work. They are bunting to freshen the “family scent” and so welcome you home.

Social grooming—that is, kittens grooming each other or even you!—is also thought to figure into this mechanism of sharing familiar scent. You’ll know your kitten considers you, the dog, or the other cats a true part of the family when they want to clean you.

Of course, there’s always exceptions to the rule, mainly Grumpy Cat, who has some definite opinions!

Love is in the Air

Valentine's Day

Ouch! That wasn’t love at all! On this wonderful day, let’s consider these feelings instead.

My Blankie Loves Me

And last, but not least:

Will You Be My Valentine

Hope you have a wonderful day, readers! As always, we look forward to your comments and feedback about the blog. Happy Valentine’s Day!
