An Expression of Love for Mother’s Day

Standard

Some cats are just irresistible!

Their purrs are good for your health.

Their love is very comforting.

They practice patience.

They show their love in many ways.

And finally, some advice.

Thank you, Mom, for everything.

Did You Get a New Kitten for Christmas?

Standard

A new, furry, lovable kitten is always fun, but sometimes that fun wears off when the holidays are over. I’ve always believed that if you’re going to be a pet owner, you need to be a responsible pet owner. It breaks my heart to see animals mistreated because their owners are tired of them. All of us who are animal lovers know how precious these little lives are and that they deserve good care like the rest of our family.

Kind to an Animal

If the animal was a gift that you don’t want anymore, then please find it a home where it can be happy or put it in a no-kill shelter. The shelters are full of pets looking for a forever home. Some people prefer to adopt an older animal rather than getting a young one. An older cat is not as mischievous as a kitten can be nor are they as active.

Adopt a Senior Pet

Of course, who could turn this down?

Adoption

If you’re up for some adventure, you could always adopt a feral cat. It took my Sammy a long time to learn to trust humans, but the patience was worth it. He is the most lovable lap cat now and just gives me so much joy.

Feral Cats

Feral Cats Show Love

No matter which method that new cat arrived, they will return your love many times over.

Happiness Is

Pure Love

First Thing

Through all of this, however, you have to remember one basic fact. No one owns a cat!

No One Owns a Cat

Owned By a Cat

And finally……………

Getting Ready For the Big Day

Standard

Last week my computer wouldn’t even turn on, so I missed posting. Finally able to get it fixed! Want to share with you how the cats help me get ready for Christmas.

First of all, we have to have a Christmas tree,

ill-help-decorate

so they have something to play with!

If they play with the garland, you may get this.

Okay, finally have the tree ready. We have a new angel at the top.

Of course, with Christmas, there’s always cookies.

Why Your Cat Will Play With Just About Anything

Standard

For humans, summer is the time to play and relax as much as possible. Go camping, golfing, fishing, take a vacation or whatever you choose to do to unwind. Cats have the luxury of being able to play every day regardless of the weather or where they are living. According to a cat behavioral consultant, Daniel Quaghozzi, from San Francisco, most domestic cats are pretty bored. We, as humans, underestimate the amount of interactive play they need on a daily basis. We get excited about a brand new toy we’ve bought them, but most of the time, they prefer the packaging it came in! Sound familiar?

Bored

Let’s take a look at some cats playing with THEIR choice of toys.

Wormhole

They get their exercise for the day playing with this.

Out of Toilet Paper

Nice try, but not a good excuse!

Looks like Snowflake

Cardboard is always a favorite toy.

Truth in Advertising

ATT00010

Don’t think you’d want to see this!

Highly Trained Technicians

Or this!

New Curtains

Sometimes you might not even know they’ve been playing around unless………

Who Dun It

Pulling Crap

Sometimes they want to play with “little humans”.

Pets and Kids

They might get a surprise when they play with adults.

Spoil Sport

And, of course, there’s always the dog.

Apologize

To sum up, cats don’t always get excited to play with the toys we think they should.

Cat Toys

Sometimes our cats can be too curious for their own good. And while it’s fun to watch them turn just about anything into a toy, we have to be careful about what they can get their paws on. Stringlike objects, such as yarn, can cause intestinal blockages or strangulation. Plastic bags can suffocate and the handles can get caught on a cat’s neck. Small objects could be chocking hazards. Always use your good judgement.

What kind of everyday materials does your cat like to play with? Would love to hear your stories.

More Problems For Your TOO MANY CATS

Standard

Remember last week when you accepted all those cats from Fred and the problems you might have?

I thought of some other things. How would you feed all those cats! Heaven forbid that you eat before they do.

Eating First

You might have a revolt on your hands!

You might have to resort to this.

Next would be the matter of visits to the vet for annual checkups and to make sure everyone is “fixed”.

Cats, the Gift That Keeps On Giving

Cats like having their own hiding places or comfortable spots where they just like to be left alone.

Christmas Day (Kitty Style)

Standard

It was a different Christmas with Mom being gone, but the boys and I made it through. I hope your Christmas Eve and Day was joyful and full of hope. Looking forward to a better year.

The day of Christmas Eve was exciting since everyone was getting ready for Santa Claus. There were last minute things to finish up with wrapping presents, cleaning house, and getting ready for the Christmas service at church. Sometimes things got a little confusing.

Your Death Will Be Slow and Painful

The Vacuum Cleaner is Out

While I was at church, the boys were making their lists and checking them twice.

Kitty and His Computer

But some of them didn’t want to stop and go to bed!

Enough Internet

Tell Santa I Want Catnipz

Finally, everyone was asleep and the house was quiet.

The Children Were All Nestled Snug in Their Beds

Christmas morning dawned bright and early with snow on the ground.

Dashing

It wasn’t long until everyone wanted to see their presents, but there was a minor accident to clean up first.

The Tree is Dead

Once that was cleaned up, it was time to open presents.

What Did I Get

This Is Just What I Wanted

Ribbons

Some were a little upset about cleaning up afterwards.

Throwing Away the Good Stuff

And some were a little too happy! Wonder what he got into.

Too Much of Something

And now it’s time to get back to “normal”, whatever that is. When you have cats, it’s hard to know sometimes. Whatever that happens to be, this is a definite………

Rewarding experience

See you in 2016!

Are You Ready?

Standard

Sorry I missed last week, but things were pretty crazy around here. Thanksgiving is not too far away, so I thought I’d better get something done today and get ready for it. Of course, the cats wanted to help. Yikes!! They have their own thoughts about the menu, but I’m the boss. (Or so I think)

Okay, let’s start with the turkey. I know I can go to the store to get one, but they think you trap a turkey like you trap cats. I don’t think so!!

Cat Traps

We need stuffing for the turkey, but that’s not what salad is for, silly cat.

I Want It

We’ll need potatoes and some kind of vegetable to go with the salad, but I don’t think I’m going to get any help there. (He won’t either)

Cat on Back

What should we have for dessert? Anything with chocolate is fine with me! And no, you can’t have any chocolate.

You Don't Say

Most everybody in our family drinks coffee with their meal.

Coffee Consumption

Sometimes people bring a special dish that others like, so the dog thinks he needs to do this too!

Can We Keep It

All in all, it will be a wonderful day because of being with family. After all, when everything is said and done, that’s what’s important!

Poor Ralph!

Standard

I apologize for not posting a blog for the last two weeks. My mother passed away three weeks ago much to our shock. She had been in the nursing home for two months; the therapist said she was doing good with her therapy and could be coming home. Needless to say, my mind has not been on writing with everything there is to do. I have several short stories already written, so I’ll be posting those for a couple of weeks. Please bear with me. Thank you for your understanding.

Ralph, his mother, and his brothers and sisters all lived in a house way out in the country. Of course, they allowed humans to live there too. There were many other creatures on this ranch that the humans had to take care of, but the cats made sure that THEY were taken care of first. As long as they were fed, the litter box was kept clean, they could get brushed often, and had a lap to lay on, they didn’t care how much time the humans spent with the other animals.

Some of these humans were things called children. They were all different sizes and ages. The younger ones had all kind of toys to play with. Mother Cat wasn’t too interested in playing with the children, but Ralph and his brothers and sisters would all join in and play with some of the toys too. That was so much fun!! When the youngest child had a birthday, she decided that she would like balloons at her party.

Ralph had never seen balloons before. What odd things they were! Some of them were bright colors and they floated in the air! He was fascinated by them. Every once in a while, one would lose air and get lower to the ground. Ralph would chase after it and bat it around with his paw before someone took it away from him. Finally, he was able to grab one and keep it to himself. Then this happened!

Smokey and George

Standard

What a crazy, busy week!! Time for another story. Enjoy.

Smokey loved to play outside! Any time he had the chance, that’s where he would be. If it was a sunny day, he would lie down on his back with his tummy up in the air to catch the heat of the sun. Oh, it felt so good. He could really take a good nap that way. If he was feeling playful, there were all kind of bugs, lizards, and other animals to chase. Sometimes, he just enjoyed smelling all of the pretty flowers growing in the yard. The yard was a comfortable, happy place.

One day, he had just dozed off when something hit him in the head! Thump! “OUCH!”, cried Smokey. He looked around to see what in the world had hit him. He was NOT happy to be disturbed. At first, he didn’t notice anything, but then he finally saw a brown lump lying on the grass. What was it? He was trying to figure it out when he heard a voice say, “Give me back my nut!!” A squirrel went racing past him, grabbed the nut, and ran back up the tree.

Since he was a cat, he was very curious. “Who are you, and what is a nut?” Smokey called up to the squirrel. “My name is George,” replied the squirrel. “Nuts are something I eat” Smokey couldn’t imagine eating something as hard and lumpy as a nut, so he asked George to bring it down from the tree and let him  look it over. George did, and over time, he and Smokey became great friends. Later, Smokey wanted his humans to meet George and invited him into the house. The whole family loved him!

My Friend George

Happy Father’s Day, Mr. Cat!!

Standard

Sunday is Father’s Day. We humans like to get gifts for our fathers. Made me wonder what I would give to my father if he had been a cat. Interesting concept. Here’s what I came up with for your cat(s).

First of all, they would probably want a party. (When you weren’t home)

Get This Party Started

Once you are home, presents would be expected. How about a sweater?

Black Sweater Cat

That’s probably too hot for summer. Maybe a new hat.

My Dancing Hat

Let’s see what else they would like. Perhaps a nice trip somewhere.

Dad's On TV

Catnip Kicked In

If a long trip is not convenient, try a shorter one.

I'm Going to the Library

If your cat is computer literate, perhaps they would like to post on Facebook.

I Love This Post

Human dads would like chocolates, but that’s not good for cats.

I Don't Like Chocolates

However, they might like flowers.

Smells So Good!

One thing I KNOW they would like is a new box to play in.

The Reflexes of a Cat

Something else they would appreciate is a nice treat.

Thank You

I Want Tacos

However, if it’s not what they want, you may see this!

No Tuna No Snuggles

They might enjoy music while they are eating.

I No U Is In There

When the day is done, your cat probably will be tired from all the excitement. Time to tell them good night.

I'm Going to Take a Nap Now

What kind of things would you get your cat for Father’s Day? Let’s see how many funny suggestions I get.
